A Nobutomo Katana (賀州住藤原信友)

ujka142 - A Nobutomo Katana / 賀州住藤原信友 刀

Graceful and elegant are two words that come to mind when describing this katana. From kojiri to kashira, it is a class act. Nobutomo is among Kaga province’s finer swordsmiths, rated Chujo-saku by Fujishiro, and this blade feels like one of his greatest accomplishments. The gunome midare hamon is splendid – active and well-tempered – and the itame jihada is cleanly forged throughout. An ubu nakago of 69.3cm with a healthy 2.1cm curvature gives the blade a fine presence.

It is no surprise that this sword has attained the distinction of NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon. The certification speaks directly to the quality of the workmanship, and collectors who know Kaga swords will understand what is on offer here.

The vintage matching koshirae is equally impressive. The fittings pay tribute to the rooster – a creature synonymous in Samurai culture with courage and loyalty – and the saya displays a lacquer technique of exceptional quality that remains in pristine condition. A shirasaya is also included for safe storage. This is a complete, presentation-ready ensemble.
