A Takada Muneyuki Katana (高田統行)

This graceful and powerful katana is attributed to Muneyuki of the Takada School – a swordsmith from Bungo province in Kyushu who went by the personal name Nakama Shingoro. He began forging during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, a turbulent thirty-year era that gave way to the long peace of the Edo period. Possessing both skill and authority, Muneyuki became the founder of the Shintô Takada School, a lineage that built its reputation on producing dependable, battle-worthy blades.
Muneyuki carries the Wazamono rating for exceptional cutting ability. The Takada School is consistently regarded as a source of reliable swords that perform as well as they look – and this katana is a fine example of that tradition.
The hamon is a compelling study in contrast: long stretches of quiet, composed nie-suguha that suddenly erupt into pockets of wild gunome waves. The blade moves between restraint and excitement in a way that holds the eye. For the collector who wishes to build a custom koshirae around a historically significant blade, this is an excellent foundation.
